The host family

Nestled at the foot of Mt Tallabung on Wiradjuri country, “Cooyong Homestead” is home to Adrian and Kylie Matthews, and their four children. Having purchased the property in 2012, the family have been restoring it to life since; running the 1,200-acre property holistically, using practices that will continually improve the health of the soils, plants, and animals.

Along with an Angus breeding operation, they also produce free range meat chickens on a seasonal basis. Having introduced biodynamics and using little or no chemicals, the Matthews manage the grazing to focus on resting the paddocks, encourage biodiversity and are currently implementing a revegetation program throughout the property.

Dominated by Box Gum woodlands and with an abundance of wildlife in the area, including wallabies, eastern grey kangaroos, echidnas, Wedge tailed eagles and many more, the family saw an opportunity to share their slice of life with others.

Transforming two original grain silos into custom-designed boutique accommodation was an idea the couple had been toying with since 2007, and finally in 2022 they decided to bring their dream to fruition, and got to work!

Top Paddock Silo Stay opened in March, 2024 as a unique way to experience Forbes and its surrounding areas.
